Join me on my recent trip to Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel Athens, our brand-new resort-style property on the Athens Riviera.

I first went to Athens on a family holiday when I was eight years old, and I remember being dragged around the famous sites by my parents – not appreciating all the beauty and history. This visit was a total contrast. I was blown away by all that the destination and our resort has to offer.

While we were shooting the video, I jotted down a few notes about my extraordinary Athens experience. I think your clients are going to love it too!

What surprised me...

I was amazed by the proximity to downtown Athens. It’s only 30 minutes away – yet once you arrive at the resort, you feel like you’re at a Greek island hideaway. Guests can embrace all the culture Athens has to offer and visit all the incredible sites. Then they can return to the tranquility of Astir Palace, where they can relax poolside or on the beach, enjoying the view of the aquamarine water and the rugged coastline. It’s the best of both worlds.

What impressed me most…

No matter where you are on the resort you feel like you are literally on the water. Most of the accommodations are located within two main buildings, Arion and Nafsika, just a three-minute walk apart on a beautiful coastal path.

The best thing I ate…

We had the chance to be part of the tasting trial at the Greek restaurant, Taverna 37, and I loved the sharing platters with so many local dishes. The grilled octopus was so fresh and bursting with flavour. To drink, I have to suggest the Greek version of an Aperol Spritz – so refreshing, it makes for the perfect sundowner.

I was impressed by the number of dining options. There are eight restaurants and bars, including Matsuhisa Athens by the famous chef who created Nobu. Options range from homemade Italian dishes at Mercato to sophisticated seafood at Pelagos.

Top recommendations for your clients...

There are many activities exclusive to Four Seasons that enrich the guest experience. We had a private tour of the Benaki Museum in Athens with the Head Curator as our guide. The museum specializes in the history of Greek culture and it’s fascinating for all ages.

I also loved our private boat tour to Poseidon’s Temple, which was built in 444 BC – the same year as the Parthenon. We were picked up at the hotel’s own dock and arrived in just 30 minutes. It was wonderful being on the sea and looking at the coastline. Then we were dropped off right at the foot of the temple. The experience felt even more special once we realized most people had to travel by coach on long winding roads!

Spending time at the Spa, so you can try treatments inspired by the teachings of Hippocrates. Just relax on the terrace and soak in the magnificent views!
